March 15, 2009:
Gordon Bok
We're delighted Gordon Bok will be back in Woods Hole this season. His velvety baritone weaves songs of sailors, seals, schooners and mythical sea folk. Growing up around the boatyards of Camden, Maine, he taught himself to sing and play guitar, and began writing songs based on experiences of people around him who lived on the water. Master of both the 6- and 12-string guitars, Gordon has made over 20 albums, and many other musicians have recorded his songs. A superb storyteller, he often introduces songs with tales of their origin and history. "There is something deeply rooted, ancient and timeless to his songs," says Scott Alarik of Sing Out!, "yet he is an utter original." Gordon's unique style continues to draw scores of fans to performances throughout North America, Great Britain and Scandinavia -- and we have a chance to hear him right in our own backyard.
