Mark Weems and Julee Glaub

Little Windows: Mark Weems and Julee GlaubLittle Windows, Mark Weems and Julee Glaub, perform traditional Appalachian and Irish songs and traditionally based originals. Whether singing unaccompanied ballads or blending their tight harmonies with guitar, fiddle, banjo, flute, piano or bodhrán, the duo produces a luscious, heartfelt, and deeply pure vocal sound. As they put it, "we try to draw the focus away from ourselves and toward the beauty and magic of the songs." Mark was born in Alabama and is steeped in the old time music of Appalachia. A native of North Carolina, Julee studied singing in Ireland for seven years while working with the poor, a key inspiration to her ballad singing. Besides recording with other groups and on their own, Mark and Julee released their first duo recording, "Just Beyond Me", in 2006. "For those unaware of the human depth of traditional song," they say, "our hope is to open up little windows into this timeless, spiritual, mythical land." Si Kahn calls it: "music as it was meant to be sung É open the window and listen."
