April 13, 2008: Lissa Schneckenburger

Lissa SchneckenburgerLissa is returning to entertain us with energetic fiddle playing and sweet vocals that rise up straight from the soul. Growing up with music in a small town of Maine, by high school she was already playing sprightly New England dance tunes influenced by the British Isles and Quebec. Since graduating from the New England Conservatory of Music, Lissa has continued this tradition at festivals, folk clubs, and concert venues around the world.

More recently, Lissa has also been studying the roots of the Downeast traditional music that she first heard as a young girl. She is launching "Song" in April -- a 2-CD recording that re-introduces some wonderful but largely forgotten songs from New England -- music that she uncovered through research largely at the University of Maine. Included are ten timeless ballads from as early as the 18th century that she set to carefully crafted modern arrangements. We're excited to be one of the first audiences to hear her perform these traditional northeast songs.
