January 31, 2010:
Northern Lights Farewell Concert
Superlative string band Northern Lights may not be traditional in a
bluegrass sense, but they have created their own tradition by playing in
Woods Hole nearly every year since forming in 1975.
From first forays into
Newgrass as the presciently named band "How Banks Fail" to their latest
album "One Day," the band has fused an eclectic mix of roots, rock, country,
soul and gospel with the traditional instrumentation and tight vocal harmony
of bluegrass. They have performed with the likes of Jonathan Edwards and
Vassar Clements, recorded 11 albums, and rotated a number of young stars
through their ranks. This will be their final tour. After 35 years of
bringing great music to the Northeast, the group will disband in the spring.
The Woods Hole lineup, as yet uncertain, may include a blast from the past.
Don't miss the chance to enjoy their famous "high lonesome sound" one last
time.
